FIRST FREESTANDING AMBULATORY SURGICAL CENTER IN AREA OPENS DOORS.
The Surgeons’ Surgical Center officially opened its doors at 940 Seton Drive on March 20, 1998. This date marks the first outpatient surgery that was performed in Allegany County at a freestanding outpatient surgical center. Dr. Robert D. Cendo, a local orthopaedic surgeon, performed this first surgery. Dr. Carlos Santiago, a local anesthesiologist, provided the anesthesia.
Outpatient Surgical Centers are present all over the world and, in fact Maryland has an average of 200 facilities providing ambulatory surgical services. As health care continues to change, many patients feel that the care they receive is becoming increasingly less personal with an "assembly line" like approach. This is evidenced not only by the strategy in which insurance companies deal with patients and healthcare providers, but also by the manner in which both the hospitals and the physicians view the patient.

The Surgeons’ Surgical Center specializes in outpatient same-day surgery. We have refined techniques to use short-acting anesthetic agents while employing the latest advanced medical technology allowing the least traumatic style of surgery.
Our patients can return home the same day with limited pain. Easy access to the front door from the parking area allows the patient to essentially walk-in, undergo the procedure, and then following a light recovery period, walk out.
